Best alternative tyre options?
Please excuse me if this has appeared within another thread, but I was just wondering if people have tried different tyres on e-Odin, with what result?
Of course, one can read many tyre reviews.
But i was thinking there may be specific tyres that suit this bike in particular, given its particular geometry, weight, speed.
I was thinking of replacing the front tyre with something more like a dual sport tyre. These have some compromise on performance on other bikes, but on e-Odin I do not see the downside.
Having slipped the front tyre on other bikes on low traction surfaces, I am always wary of crumbling and gravel surfaces now in particular.
I was thinking of something like the Kenda K-761 as it is a cost effective general tyre, but like many of these dual purpose tyres there are limited size range.
The 90 profile would add 10 mm height, but maybe this is not a bad thing as the suspension is quite hard?
Has anyone else had these thoughts, something with wider terrain capability for the front because performance isn't something worth worrying about?

Re: Best alternative tyre options?
Hallo bob,

Re: Best alternative tyre options?
Thank you and I would quite like to get Heindenau, I know they are 'F99's favorites, but unfortunately they are quite a price when shipped to the UK.
They are not common here.
I will keep looking.

Re: Best alternative tyre options?
The best price for the Heidenau was still a bit more than I wanted to pay, so I thought I'd go with a Kenda K701 which is a winter tyre.
The reason is that they do a 110/70 17 and all the reviews are extremely positive, indicating low wear throughout the year. It's like no owners had anything at all bad to say about them.
Who knows for sure. You try a tyre and you get stuck with it for a while. People can only talk about what they have, they can't try many different tyres. But I will be fitting it myself so I will avoid the fitting costs.
There was something else I realised too. The rim on the e-Odin is a 3.5" (that is what I measure it as) which limits the size options, according to this chart.
I cannot go smaller on the e-Odin rim (the chart says), nor a taller profile.
I will be changing off a 120/70 from another bike, which is still in good shape, so I think I will swap that over to the e-Odin first of all. The reason I am doing any of this is because I want to get rid of the castor shimmy on mine at 40 mph. If it is because of the tyre, then I will find out by putting on a tyre I know does not shimmy on another bike. If it still shimmys, then I have to take a longer look at the head bearings on the e-Odin, but they seem OK to me as far as I can tell.
When I take the wheel off, maybe I will find the front wheel bearings are tired.

Interesting.
I did not see a marking. I did look, did not see any. I measured it.
I will look again for marking.

Mine is like your photo, it says '3' on it.
It seems like a wider rim to me than that.

Re: Best alternative tyre options?

My E-Odin 2.0 has the 3.0 x 17" rim installed. And I'm riding Conti Road Attack 3 tires (110/70-17 at the front and 180/55-17 at the rear, just like mentioned at the COC) without any shimmy behaviour.

same here.
-> Conti Road Attack 3
Way better than the original Tires. They fit well and feel absolutely safe on the road.
