It is always like wrestling match. Me versus tyre.
It was not too bad. I have practiced on two different old rims before, and every time the tyre goes on differently. There is no method, just brute force. This was different again.
This Kenda winter tyre seems a very tough construction, hard to push and bend around, which I think is a good thing.
It went on OK, but one part of the tyre just would not seal with the shoulder. I just could not get it to 'catch' the shoulder. I remounted the wheel and pushed it around a bit. I wrapped a ratchet strap. I pushed, banged and hammered it.
Normally I just bounce them around a bit and they seem to find the shoulder. I think the tyre is very tough and would not flex over without working hard at it.
I eventually got it to grab the shoulder, and it was fine after that. It runs a lot truer than the original tyre, with only a little runout which is probably the rim itself.
I tested it and there is still a little castor wobble 40~45, but not as much. I have not tried to balance it yet, it might get better. My initial impression is that it does feel smoother. It seems to have a lot of grip, which was the point in doing it. I worried about the Chinese tyre on gravel and wet.
The Chinese tyre that came off is literally lumpy. Run your hands around it, there does not feel to be any grip in the rubber and you feel the lumps!
